Grant Program is to provide seed money for the development of innovative,
cutting edge curricular programs.
This
software project was recognized as an outstanding “2004 Innovations
in Teaching” by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy!
The
success of the project depended on the collaborative efforts of
many people from the University
at Buffalo and Creative Approaches,
Inc.

RPh, PhD
Project Director
Dr.
Kathleen Boje is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair in the Department
of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School
of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University at Buffalo.
Her educational background includes a BS in Pharmacy (Summa Cum
Laude) from Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, pharmacist
licensure and registration in Pennsylvania and New York, and a
Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the State University of New York at
Buffalo. She earned a Certificate in Educational Technology from
the University at Buffalo.
Kathleen
serves as Director and Advisor for the Bachelor of Science Pharmaceutical
Sciences undergraduate students in the School of Pharmacy. She
is responsible for undergraduate and graduate courses in the professional
pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences programs. In 1997, Dr. Boje
was awarded the Rho Chi Excellence in Teaching Award from the 1997
Pharmacy Graduating Class. She was recently honored with the State
University of New York “Chancellor's Award for Excellence
in Teaching” in 2004.
Christine Sauciunac, MS
Associate Project Director
Christine Sauciunac recently retired from her position as Associate
Director of Instructional Technology Services (ITS), a unit of
Academic Services Computing Information Technology, University
at Buffalo. Her educational credentials include a Bachelor of Arts,
Humanities (English) from the State University of New York at Binghamton,
degrees from Erie Community College (Associate of Science, Computer
Science and Associate of Applied Science, Computer Technology)
and a Masters of Science, Computer Science from the State University
of New York at Buffalo.
While at the university, Chris was active in the development of
programs for faculty to enhance their teaching and course development
through technology through workshops, short conferences, and one-on-one
consulting. She was also active on many university committees involving
educational instructional technology issues.
Chris received university recognition for
her achievements in leading the university into the information
technology age. She was awarded the prestigious Chancellor's
Award for Excellence in Professional Service and University at
Buffalo’s Service
Excellence Award. She is also a recipient of the Bernice Poss award
for demonstrated service to the university and to the larger society,
a genuine concern for others, and a strong and steady advocacy
of the rights and advancement of women.
Creative Approaches, Inc.
was founded in 1983 by Travis Piper. Travis was recently proclaimed
by the American Management Association as one “of 27 of the
world's most respected authorities” in the e-learning industry.
Since its inception, the firm has specialized in the custom development
of computer-based training (CBT) and e-learning projects, having
completed well over 200 to date. Creative Approaches continues
to lead the eLearning industry through development of internet
and intranet-based training programs drawing on their many years
of industry experience.
Custom
e-learning development has been the firm’s specialty since
1983. As the training industry has gradually incorporated more
and more technology, Creative Approaches has developed some of
the latest eLearning techniques on a variety of platforms using
such products as Flash, Dreamweaver, Authorware, and Director.

Numerous
undergraduate and graduate students in the Department
of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy volunteered
for usability testing and focus group testing of the various
modules. A special thanks goes to the students enrolled in “Case Studies
in Pharmaceutical Sciences”, “Pharmaceutical Principles” and “Pharmaceutical
Biotechnology” (2000-2003), who offered valuable feedback
in the development of a module prototype and various other
issues related to the software development and implementation
process.
